Romana started her tour around South America at 10k tournament in Asunción. The first of three Paraguayan tournaments started on Monday, October 31st. First up was the Argentine against Agustina Serio, she was easily beaten: 6-2, 6-3. After a one day break she had to play against the talented Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia. Romana won in three sets and said after the match: "I really can not believe she is only 15 years old." The day after had the quarterfinals scheduled, in which she faced yet another tough match, against Paraguayan wildcard Montserrat Gonzalez, currently the world number 8 in the junior rankings. The young Paraguayan was up 6-3, 5-3 but did not win. Romana broke her twice in the end of 2nd set and won 7-5. In the third set she won with same scoreline as in the previous one, therefore winning the match 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. On Friday she played the semifinal against another talented junior: Victoria Bosio from Argentina. Romana started off the match perfectly, after few minutes she was already leading 6-0, 3-0 and this was the essential fact that decided the match.

On Saturday Romana played her third final this season. Her opponent was the number one seed, Maria Irigoyen from Argentina. Romana played against her once before this season, losing to her 5-7, 2-6 during a 25k challenger in Slovenia last June. The match in Asunción saw the Argentine tennisplayer leading 5-7, the 2nd set went into a tiebreaker. Irigoyen came as close as having two matchpoints at 5-6 and 6-7 in the tie-break, but Romana saved them both. The same scenario with two matchpoints repeated itself at 4-5 and 15-40 in the third set. Again, Romana showed her great mental through saving those important points.

In the nerve-racking end of the match she finished the match with a smash, converting her second matchpoint and winning her second ITF title this season. After match she said: "We only started to play in the evening because of rain. I lost against her this year but this time I tried not to think about that and to just stay focused. I am really glad I won. It is a great start of my South American tour. I would like to continue this way and start to play bigger tournaments. I would like to thank my coach, my team and my family for their support."

After two days off, Romana participated in another 10K tournament in Paraguay. The second week started off pretty fast with a 6-0, 6-1 win against lucky loser Sofia Blanco from Argentina. The second round was a rematch against a player Romana already beat the week before. The match between her and Montserrat Gonzalez from Paraguay was yet again tough. She was down 1-4 in the second set, trailing with a double-break. Fortunately she showed again that she keeps fighting until the end, and thus won closely: 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. In the quarterfinal she won against Ulrikke Eikeri from Norway 6-3, 6-3. With that she avenged her loss against her dating back from october 2010 in Portugal. The semifinal was another déjà-vu, where she faced Beatriz Haddad Maia from Brazil again. She started off badly and lost the first set 0-6. At that point she was really tired and actually wanted to retire from match. Luckily for her she didn’t and it seems this was a very good decision. She won the next two sets and the whole match with a scoreline of 0-6, 6-4, 6-4, reaching her second final within two weeks.

The final opponent was second seed Tina Schiechtl from Austria, with a world ranking of almost 100 spots higher than Romana herself. She started the match well. She was leading 5-3, but then wasted some chances and lost the tie-break 3-7. She came very close to defeat at the point of 2-4 and 0-40 on Schiechtl‘s serve, but yet again with huge motivation she turned the match around. After the match she said: „I am happy, though a little tired. I did not play my best tennis this week, but as one famous artist once said: – It was not bad, on the contrary, it was excellent! Since Monday I am concentrating on the new tournament here.“

Again two days of well deserved rest followed, after already taking 2 titles and winning 10 matches in a row. Then the 3rd tournament started. This time it was a stronger tournament, a 25k one, so Romana had no expectations. The draw was pretty difficult! Romana faced the 7th seed and her opponent from the final last week in the first round: Tina Schiechtl from Austria. Romana started this match really well, she was leading 6-4, but then unfortunately lost 4 close games in a row to trail 1-4 in the second. At that point Romana gained her momentum again and took 5 games in a row to win with a double 6-4. After the match she said: „it was a really tough match. It was very windy on court and I am glad I won it.“ In the second round Romana had a routine win against Andrea Gamiz from Venezuela 6-2, 6-4.

Then, in the quarterfinal a big hurdle appeared. Everyone expected the thougest match against 1st seed Julia Cohen from USA (WTA-173). Romana won with a really impressive scoreline of 6-1, 7-5! „I just pushed the ball the whole match and that worked. At 6-1, 2-0 I lost my concentration due to the hot weather. I felt like I almost had to faint. Luckily I felt better shortly after and I could go back to how I played before and win the match.“ The semifinal was played on Friday and Romana played against the 6th seed, Tereza Mrdeza from Croatia. Romana won again in two sets, 7-6(2), 6-2, thus reaching her first 25K final of her career. Her opponent in the final, Florencia Molinero, was the second seed and yet another top 200 player which Romana had to face. The difference in ranking between the players is large, but Romana prooved her good form and demolished her in two easy sets 6-1, 6-0. This meant her first 25k title in her career and her 4th ITF title this season.

Romana: „I am really happy with this title. I would like to thank my coach, my parents, my team and also the National Tennis Center (NTC). Unfortunately I had to skip a Black Eyed Peas concert this week, but of course I have no regrets. I had a great time here in Asunción and I hope to go back one day. Now I’m taking a few days off, planning to visit the Iguaçu waterfalls, I heard it’s absolutely beautiful there. Afterwards I will travel to Argentina on Tuesday. Romana with title in Bastad !!

Romana came to tournament to Sweden with a goal to take some points to get WTA ranking again. She reached that easily after two straight sets wins against 7th seed Emma Flood (NOR) and Alina Wessel (GER). In quarterfinal had really hard match against Sylwia Zagorska from Poland. Polish was leading 7-6(2), 5-3, but Romana kept fighting and won the match 6-7(2), 7-6(5), 6-4 after 3 hours. Another difficult match played in semifinal with young german tennisplayer Carina Witthoeft. Romi was again one set down, but won again 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. On Saturday, 14th May, Romana play again in final, for the second time this year, and it was really tough and long match. Girls played more than 4 hours !! In the end was happier Romana, she won 7-5, 6-7(2), 6-2 and took her 3rd ITF title in career! Big congratulation!

Romana almost defended the title in Bournemouth!

Romana won the title at tournament in Bournemouth one year ago. She did not plan to play this tournament this year, but after bad situation with her ranking she decided to go there and was successful again! She won 4 matches in main draw and lost just last one, in the final to Scarlett Werner, 2nd seed 3-6, 5-7. During tournament showed Romi really great form. In first round match against Abbi Melrose almost lost first set, was 1-6 down in tie-break first set, but then she won 7 points in row, won the tie-break 8-6!! Was really unusual and nice performance. The very similar run had Romana also in 2nd round match against Constanza Mecchi, she was down 2-4 in 2nd set and won unbelievably 15 points in row and whole match 7-5, 6-4. Julia Moriarty and also Francesca Stephenson lost to Romana in 2 straight sets as well. The final match has been played in same day like semifinal, that´s probably why Romana lost it. She sent message for her fans after the match: Dear fans, thanks a lot for your all support! ... today i lost in final 6:3, 7:5 ... though match, especially when i played semifinal the same day, anyway i´m pleased that i played the final after almost one year, i´m bit sad because if i would win my coach would go all way to Bratislava with make-up 8)) ... I am looking for more finals in this season and my goal is to reach grandslams next year, i need to keep working hard a lot of rehab and it´s gonna come for sure, at moment i´m looking at my ranking and also to lose some weight to get again to better shape.... tomorrow i have day off, i am going to London ... can´t wait 8) .... than later flight to Vienna and on Monday i am going to Prague because i need to visit my doctor which has opearted me, because i have little problem with knees again ... i will start to play on Wednesday in Bratislava in slovak league... thanks again and hope to see ya soon .. love, R. Almost one year Romana could not play tournaments due to knee injury. It was very hard year for her, she almost lost her WTA ranking and she had to stop practising. It was almost one year without sport for her. She started to practise in February and now she is back to the tour. She started her come back on tournaments in Croatia which has played also last year. "I don´t have big expectations at the croatian tour, it can be good practise for me for upcoming tournaments. I keep working hard and day after day it is better and better." she said.

At the first tournament in Sibenik Romana did not qualify into main draw. She lost in 3rd round of qualifying to Matea Curic (CRO) 4-6, 2-6.

Tournament in Bol was more successful, Romana won all three matches in qualifying, first match against Dijana Aradinovic (SRB) 6-0, 6-0. In the afternoon she also won another round against Dejana Raickovic (GER) 6-4, 6-4. In last game of both sets was Romana 15-40 down, but she won those important games. In last round of qualifying was also successful against 9th seed Ivana Klepic. She won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. It was really tough match for her, she was 2-4 down in last set. In first round of main draw Romi lost to Gracia Radovanovic in very close match 5-7, 6-7(2). It was tournament again without points to WTA ranking, but promising for upcoming tournaments. Romana is still injured

Since May, Romana has been stuggling with knee Injury. Istead of playing tournaments she has visited doctors in the Czech Republic and Austria.

Romana visited Dr. Weinstabl in vienna, he cures her after knee surgery. The knee injury stopped her career although season 2010 has started very well, Romana has reached doubles title in Antalya and in may she was successful at tournament in Bournemouth and reached her second ITF singles title in career.

„I could not come to play exhibition tournament in Puerto Rico where i had to play against Ashley Harkleroad and Anna Kournikova. Instead of me there went sisters Pliskova“ she said. „After the title in Bournemouth i felt really big pain, afterwards i had to go to surgery in Prague to Dr. Trc. Since then has passed enough time to come back but unfortunately i am not yet. In October i was in Espinho at tournament, but i could not run. When i started to run, it started to sting. I went to prof. Dr. Weinstabl in vienna which also helped to Dominik Hrbaty. He gave me special test, introduced me into the veins of contast fluid, which revealed an infection. I hope Dr. Weistabl will help me. When i don´t count problems with my ankle and also with my arm two years ago it is the most serious injury in my tennis career. The injury changed me really much. Now i understood what does it mean to be healthy. I am humble and with tears in my eyes i am following results of other players, how they improve. Now i regret crisis which had in past, i regret that tennis was not priority no. 1. Now i just wish i could return. I am happy to have my father, mom and also my coach Zaturecky. Without them i would not manage that. Also Robin Haase, ATP player supports me. I asked him about his injury. He said me he was stuggling with his knee almost 2 years. Also said me i have to be patient and must not to give up. In december i would like to go to High Tatras for physical practise and hopefully in january i would like to play the tournaments again. I would really appreciate the chance if i could come back healthy. Tennis is simply my life. I would like to play grandslams. To feel this amazing atmosphere of grandslam tournaments which i had as junior player. I will do my best to reach that.“

Romana won the title in Bournemouth!

Romana continues her season at Bournemouth, Great Britain what is located around 100 miles from London. After great 2 weeks in Croatia she wants to take another points to WTA Ranking. Before the tournament she has had quite impressive statistics, her records in 2010 were 14-5 in singles and 10-4 in doubles. Unfortunately she has had bad luck by drawing. She was first out of main draw. In qualifying she won both matches, first round against Mara Nowak 7-5, 6-2 and in second round against Mhairi Brown 6-2, 6-3.

Romana feels well. She plays two matches today, first round singles and doubles and she won both. Singles match against Daneika Borthwick 6-1, 6-3 and in doubles with Marlot Meddens match against Brown/Vickers 6-3, 2-6, 10-7.

Successful day for Romana!!! She started her match against 2nd seeded Marlot Meddens really bad, was down 0-4 in first set, but then won 6 games in a row and took the first set 6-4. In second set it was really close and she was again down 4-5 but then since then won 3 games in a row and won whole match 6-4, 7-5. In doubles match girls won against Benamer, Rogge-Dietrich (FRA) 6-1, 6-3. Unfortunately they will not continue their way for a title in Bournemouth, because Marlot Meddens went home to Netherlands.

Romana took another two points to WTA ranking, she won in quarterfinal against Lucy Brown from Great Britain 6-1, 6-3. During 5 matches in singles Romana still did not lost a set and tomorrow she will play in semifinal against Audrey Bergot (FRA), 7th seeded, who seems to have really good form, reached 25k final in Cairo two weeks ago (lost in final against Voráčová).

Romana reached final today!!! She won against favourite of tournament Audrey Bergot in two straight sets 7-6(2), 6-4. Tomorrow it will be her first final since august 2008. Best of luck, take the title, Romi!! ;-)

Romana won the tournament in Bournemouth. She did take her 2nd ITF title even as qualifier! In final match she won against 6th seed Lisa Whybourn (GBR) 6-1, 6-7(7), 7-6(7). It was really long match (almost 4 hours) but in the end was Romana luckier. Romana said after the match: "We had to play outdoor, but because of rain we did play final match on hard court indoor. I did start match really well, i did lead 6-1, 5-2, but then i wasted chances and match continued in tiebreak, there i have had 3 matchballs at 6-4 and 7-6, but unfortunately i lost second set. In third set i did start better again, i did lead 4-0 and also 5-3, but Whybourn again started to play better and hit some winners. In tiebreak i again wasted another 3 matchpoints at 6-4 and 7-6. By last point at 8-7 i did come to the net and Lisa send the ball into the close out. I fell down and started to cry. I dont know if that was because of i have been really exhausted or because of enjoynment. I am very happy. I really appreciate this title, it helped to me mentally. I am dont know yet where i will play next. But i will do my best, i dont want waste my chances as last season."

Romana at croatian tour

Romana went to Croatia with a goal to take first points to Sony Ericsson WTA Singles Ranking. After returning back to National Tennis Centre at Bratislava in january it seems she will be successful, her results at last tournaments in Turkey were a way better. Unfortunately, there were lot of good players and was tough to qualify into main draw even if she has been unseeded in qualifying. Now, in Hvar, her first croatian tournament was 2nd seeded in qualifying. Her opponents took just 5 games in 3 matches! In 2nd round of qualifying Romi defeated Karla Popovic (CRO) 6-1, 6-0, then in 3rd round Viktoria Stojanova (GER) 6-0, 6-4 and in final of qualifying absolutely demaged 12th player of junior ranking in Slovakia for the year 2009 Silvia Martinková, who even did not take one game against Romana and lost 6-0, 6-0.

On Tuesday played Romana just her first doubles match with Cindy Chala, her good friend of junior times. They did win match against Alizé Lim & Zuzana Lihnová in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 10-5. In quarterfinal they will meet wild-cards Matea Mezak & Silvia Njirić.

Romana took her first point to Sony Ericsson WTA Singles Ranking this season, she won easily her match against italian qualifier Stefania Fadabini 6-3, 6-2. So goal was successfuly accomplished. In 2nd round she will play against another italian player Elisa Balsamo, who is 7th seeded. Romana did play even doubles quarterfinal, right after singles first round, but with Cindy Chala were unsuccesful against Mezak/Njiric.

Romana started her qualifying for tournament in Bol really excellent, in 2 matches today lost just 4 games, includeed 3 bagels. Virginia Tica from Romania was even 3rd player this year who did not take one game in match against Romana. In third round she won also match against Laura Valková 6-4, 6-0. Tomorrow will meet in final of qualifying french player Solene Ficheux.

Day off. In Bol rained whole day. But at least main draw singles and doubles are out. Romana will play doubles with Slovakian Chantal Škamlová, Doubles Winner of Australian Open Junior Championships 2010. Good luck, girls!

Another rainy day in Croatia. Romana had to play two matches, but played just final of qualifying singles. She was really fast and won easily her match against French Solene Ficheux 6-0, 6-3 and reached main draw, where she can draw one of qualifier, Zuzana Lihnová (CZE) or 7th seeded Aleksandra Josifoska (MDA).

Romana took first points on tournament, won 2 matches today, first match against qualifier was tough one, but she won it close 7-5 in third set. Match started Romana really well, was leading 6-4, 5-1 in second set, but then Luca Pump started to play really well, probably tennis of her career. It was high quality match. Romana did waste 8 matchpoints, but this 9th was finally utilized. Then later also won match of 1st round doubles altough her doubles partner Chantal Škamlová has back injury. Girls won quite impressive 6-0, 6-4.

Another tough day. Three matches today and 3 wins. Romana won already 8 matches in Bol and still did not lost. Another very good match in 2nd round against Paola Cigui won 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 and two matches in doubles with Chantal Škamlová, already reached doubles final, even with saved matchpoints!! Big congratulation!

Romana was probably too tired, today unfortunately lost both matches. But it does not change a fact she will be after counting points cca. 90 positions higher in Singles WTA Ranking. Congrats to the best tournament in this season.

Romana started new season on clay in Turkey

After 3 months Romana returns to tennis courts. Her season started in Turkey at 10.000 USD tournament in Antalya-Belek this week. First of three tournament there started Romana into qualifying. If she want to qualify into main draw, must to win 4 matches in a row. As seeded player she got bye for the first round. In next two matches Romana won quite impressive, she was succesful against Dilara Ahmetagic from Germany 6-0, 6-3 and also defeated 16 years old Raluca Elena Platon from Romania 6-0, 6-4. Unfortunately, she lost last match in final of qualifying , lost to another Romanian 3rd seeded Cristina-Andreea Mitu 4-6, 4-6.

In doubles she were more successful, with Michaela Pochabová reached doubles title! Girls did not lose set during whole tournament and deserved to win. In first wto matches they won against wilcards Yurtkuran/Zubkov (TUR) and Anil/Yavuz (TUR). In semifinal they beat 1st seeded sisters Mayr of Italy and in final match on Saturday absolutely demaged roumanian opponents Marcu and Matei 6-1, 6-1. Congratulation on her 4th ITF doubles title!!

Romana at Ritro Slovak Open 2009

One of last chances take some points to WTA ranking did Romana have at tournament Ritro Slovak Open 2009 in Bratislava. Draw was to her too tough. Already in 1st round of qulifying she met former No. 50 in WTA ranking of 07 Aug 2006, finnish tennisplayer Emma Laine. Romana started match really well, her 1st serve percentage was high and it was key how to beat her. In 1st set she has broken Laine´s serve in 10th game and won the set 6-4, in second set it was similar to first. Romana has had 3 matchballs at 5-4 by Laine´s serve, but wasted them. Match continued to tie-break. There led Romana again and has had another 2 matchballs, but wasted them again. Laine could take the match to the 3rd set as well, because she has had 2 setballs as well (at 7-6 and 8-7). Romana but won the tie-break 11-9 and whole match as well. In 2nd round of qulifying Romana met young tennisplayer from Slovakia, Michaela Hončová. Young rising star Hončová played without lot of unforced errors and won the match 6-4, 6-3. Romana played doubles with Michaela Pochabova as well, but they lost in 1st round against 4th seeded Sandra Klemenschits and Kathrin Woerle 4-6, 1-6.

Romana played last week tournament in Cuneo, in singles she lost again in qulifying, but in doubles had another success, she lost in semifinal against 1st seeded Amanmuradova and Kustova (UZB/UKR) in 3 sets and took 70 points to doubles ranking. Akgul Amanmuradova won with Ai Sugijama WTA tournament in Estbourne two weeks ago. Today is Romi in WTA ranking on 328th position what is again her doubles career high. Romana plays very solid doubles matches in last weeks, so good luck in another tournaments!

Romana is slowly approaching the form of junior tournaments, Wimbledon and French Open 2008. Hinted by the results of the doubles at the tournament in Brno, Czech Republic (25.000 USD), where Romana reached into semifinal doubles after three nice wins. Especially last two over 3rd seeded Kristina Kucova/Teodora Mircic and 1st seeded Irina Kuzmina/Lesya Tsurenko are good result for Romana and her doubles partner Karin Morgošová. Romana continues her season in Uzbekistan. In Namangan (25.000 USD) tries to climb her ranking into TOP 500. Entry List for this tournament was weak, so she didn´t need to play qualification. Romana continues her russian tour in Khanti-Mansiysk. She arrived there with Lenka Jurikova and her trainer on Friday afternoon. Her goal for this tournament was finally to take some points to WTA ranking. And it seems to be successul because she won her first match in qualifying against Bermet Duvanaeva from Kyrgyzstan (869th in WTA) 6-0, 6-1. On Monday Romi won against 5th seeded Ekaterina Dranets (501st in WTA) from Russia easily 6-2, 6-4. In final of qualifying she met against 3rd seed in qualifying Elena Chalova (474th in WTA) from Russia , with whom has she lost in final of qualifying in 25K tournament in Moscow week ago. And lost again, easily 0-6, 4-6. Romana played doubles too, with Lenka Juríková. They lost in 1st round against ukrainian sisters duo Lyudmyla and Nadiya Kichenok 2-6, 1-6.

Romana didn´t qualify for main draw in Moscow

Just second tournament this year played Romana this week in Moscow (Russia). She lost in final of qualifying against Elena Chalova (474 in WTA), sixth seeded 5-7, 0-6. She was drawn to meet really tough opponent. Elena Chalova was favourited to win this match, her form is really good, she is finalist of 10.000 USD tournament in Las Palmas Gran Canaria one week ago. On other side it was really hard something to expect because of Romana´s high school graduation-exams in middle March. She has not had a lot of practise last weeks. Since Sunday, 29th March, she will play in qualifying for second russian tournament - 50.000 USD in Khanti-Mansiysk. Better luck there, Romi!

On Thursday 27th November 2008 in NTC (National Tennis Centre) were honoured the best tennis players of the Year 2008. Betweens juniors has won 17 years old Romana Tabakova (TK Slovan Slovenská Sporiteľňa Bratislava), who reached semifinal singles in Junior Championships in Wimbledon and doubles semifinal in French Open Junior Championships with Lenka Jurikova. Member of NTC (National Tennis Centre), currently ranked as 42nd player in ITF ranking, meantime Romana has also won her 1st women singles tournament in Ilawa and two doubles titles in Buchurest and Ilawa. Runner-up was Klaudia Boczova and third Lenka Jurikova.
